DAYS 1-3: SAN JOSE
Our half-day city tour includes the Jade and Gold Museums. We offer additional optional excursions to other areas of interest close by such as Sarchí known for its artisan crafts, the Poas and Irazu Volcanoes, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, the ancient archaeological ruins at Guayabo and the Spanish colonial basilica at Cortago.
An organic coffee farm plantation and luxurious boutique hotel located in the Central Valley. The property has the highest level of accreditation in Costa Rica’s sustainable tourism program.
Situated just off Paseo Colon, San Jose’s main thoroughfare, Hotel Grano de Oro is a 40-room hotel that was originally a tropical Victorian mansion; a sanctuary located in the heart of the capital.
The Don Carlos is located in the historical quarter of San Jose, and is just a short, few minutes’ walk from the pre-Colombian Jade Museum, the National Museum and the Gold Museum.
DAYS 3-5: TORTUGUERO
Tortuguero National Park is the most important nesting site for the green turtle in the Western Hemisphere and offers fantastic wildlife such as iguanas, caimans, sloths, toucans, turtles and monkeys. The labyrinth of deltas, canals, and lagoons are best explored by boat.
This is a good base from which to explore Tortuguero National Park and enjoy nature without sacrificing comfort. Full board and a range of excursions and activities included.
One of our favourite properties for exploring Tortuguero. All meals and some activities are included during your stay, including at least one wildlife trip by boat. Recommended.
Pachira Lodge has 94 rooms set in 34 acres, just a few minutes from the main entrance to Tortuguero National Park, ideal for exploring the canals. A choice of activities is included.
DAYS 5-8: LA FORTUNA & ARENAL
Lake Arenal was man-made in 1974 to provide hydroelectric energy for the country. We include a boat tour on the Frio River with great opportunities to spot fresh water turtles, iguanas, capuchin monkeys, sloths and abundance of birdlife.
Arenal volcano has recently been very quiet and it is now safe to hike on a trail close to the volcano and through the forest over recent lava flows.
The luxury Arenal Nayara Resort, Spa & Gardens is an oasis of tranquility surrounded by tropical rainforest with 24 spacious bungalows. An exclusive retreat to relax with great views of the volcano.
The Arenal Manoa is a property surrounded by beautiful green gardens and farmland, with great backdrop of the Arenal Volcano. Staying herem you can even get some hands-on experience to milk a cow!
Lomas del Volcan has views across to Arenal Volcano on one side and of the marvellous tropical forest on the other. The property has 52 individual cabin-style wooden chalets and offers great value for visitors to Arenal.
DAYS 8-10: MONTEVERDE CLOUDFOREST
The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is teeming with wildlife. The Sky Adventure takes you by cable-car gondola up to one of the highest mountains of Monteverde. You descend via 8 different zip lines with 2½ miles of cable enabling you to fly through the air at speeds up to 40 miles per hour.
Optional activities include: Monteverde Cloud Forest or Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve guided hike; visit a coffee plantation; sugar plantation tour; Monteverde Cheese dairy; biking and/or riding.
Located in the mountaintops of the Monteverde Cloudforest, this hotel combines elegance, great service and unprecedented sensitivity to the preservation of the environment.
El Establo is set in a 150 acres of private land (50% protected primary forest) adjacent to the Monteverde Reserve. Good facilities including swimming pools, a spa and trails to follow.
Poco a Poco is an eco-friendly lodge, offering 32 rooms and a heated swimming pool. The lodge is in a great location, and is just a short walk from Santa Elena. Great value for visitors to Monteverde.
DAYS 10-14: PACIFIC COAST (Manuel Antonio)
The Manuel Antonio National Park offers fantastic beaches and wonderful wildlife. Activities include whale watching, sea kayaking and paddle-boarding as well as hiking in the National Park.
Nearby there is an interesting wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre run by Kids Saving the Rainforest which has received some support from the LATA Foundation, a charity set up by the Latin America Travel Association which we support.

The Tamarindo coast on the Nicoya Peninsula, for example, has some of Costa Rica’s best beaches with surfing, sailing, kayaking and sports fishing. We deal with a range of airlines, including the direct services between Gatwick and San Jose with British Airways, and will book flights for you in first class, business, premium economy or or economy class according to your preference and budget. Transatlantic Flights: We will book transatlantic flights for you in economy, premium economy, business or first class according to your preference. Many passengers prefer to travel on the direct service between London Gatwick and San Jose but there are other flights via Madrid or the United States.

Seasons and Climate: The best time to visit is in the dry season between November and April. The wet season from May to October is characterised by dry mornings, a tropical downpour in the afternoon and intermittent showers in the evenings. Costa Rica is below the hurricane belt.
Entry British nationals travelling on a full, valid British passport do not require a visa for entry to Costa Rica. You should ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of arrival.
Internal Travel We arrange airport-hotel transfers and all transportation whether by land or small aircraft within Costa Rica though our ground agents locally. If you prefer to drive yourselves we will arrange 4 x 4 vehicle hire and provide guidance.
Vaccinations It is advisable to check your immunisations for Polio, Tetanus, Typhoid and Hepatitis A. If you have been to Africa within 3 months of arriving in Costa Rica you may need to provide proof of vaccination against Yellow Fever.
Exchange Rates Costs in Latin America are subject to $/£ exchange rates. At present we are working on a current exchange rate of 1.2932 (as at 07 January 2020) although this may be subject to change.
